Casey Schmitt Departs After Being Hit by a Pitch
Casey Schmitt was hit by a pitch in the elbow during his at-bat in the eighth inning of Friday's 7-6 loss to the Rays and was subsequently removed from the game. Tyler Fitzgerald replaced Schmitt in the lineup, but it was Christian Koss who slid over to third from second base and filled in at the hot corner after Schmitt's departure. It is unclear if Schmitt will have to miss any time, but if he does, Koss could see more starts at third, while Fitzgerald could be in line for more starts at second. Koss recently returned from the injured list himself and picked up two hits, an RBI, and two runs scored in Friday's contest. He's hitting .265 on the season with three home runs and three steals, and is eligible at 2B, 3B, and SS on Yahoo! if any fantasy managers need to replace Schmitt, who, for now, should be considered day-to-day. UPDATE: Schmitt has a right-forearm contusion after X-rays came back negative. He will be out for a couple days.
