Marcelo Mayer Could Require Season-Ending Surgery
Marcelo Mayer (wrist) recently received an injection to hopefully help him feel better and get back on the field. If that doesn't work, Mayer could require season-ending surgery. Mayer received the shot on Friday, so the team is going to wait a few days to see how he responds. The Red Sox didn't bring in any infield depth at the trade deadline, so losing Mayer for the rest of 2025 would certainly hurt. They'd likely be forced to use a committee approach to fill out second base. Mayer is slashing .228/.272/.402 with four home runs and 10 RBI in 44 games with the Red Sox this season. The 22-year-old is clearly still adjusting to big league pitching, but is one of the most talented prospects in the league.
