Top Five QB Prospects Of The 2025 NFL Draft

Who are the top five quarterback prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft? Joey Pollizze looks at why these five quarterbacks will be selected first in the upcoming draft.

The 2025 NFL Draft is less than two months away. That means it's time to start getting familiar with some of the top prospects in the class. When looking at the quarterback position in this year's draft, though, the talent is much weaker than in recent years. 

After seeing six quarterbacks go in the top 12 in the 2024 NFL Draft, we might not even see three quarterbacks selected in the top 50 in the 2025 NFL Draft. However, a few signal-callers in this year's class have the potential to be franchise quarterbacks in the NFL. 

So, who are the top five quarterback prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft? Let's dive in and find out.

5. Quinn Ewers 

Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers comes in at the No. 5 spot on this list after a solid final college season. Ewers did a lot of great things at Texas this past year and threw for 3,472 yards and 31 touchdowns. However, turnovers were a bit of a problem for him in 2024. He threw 12 interceptions (the most in any of his college seasons), including two in the first two rounds of the College Football Playoff. 

As a result, it's hard to see Ewers being drafted in the first two rounds of the NFL Draft. His 12 interceptions in 2024 ranked tied for fifth in all FBS, and the Texas product was inconsistent as a quarterback throughout his final college season. But there are plenty of things that make him an intriguing prospect in this year's class.

He will turn just 22 years old in March, and the Texas native has shown his potential throughout his college career. Ewers led the SEC with 31 touchdowns last year while leading his team to the second round of the playoffs. That's why a team will likely take a chance on him in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft. 

4. Jalen Milroe 

It was somewhat of a down year throwing the football for Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe. He threw for only 2,844 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions across 13 games. Milroe's rushing potential was on display throughout the season, though, as he rushed for 726 yards and 20 touchdowns. 

Milroe will enter the draft as one of the more talented quarterbacks in this class, but he still has a lot to learn. He needs to be more consistent as a passer and more decisive under center. Those reasons are probably why the Alabama product will not start right away in the NFL. 

However, if Milroe can evolve as a passer, he can certainly be a solid quarterback in the NFL one day. The 22-year-old quarterback just has to land in the right situation to help him improve in that department. Although he didn't have the best showing in the Senior Bowl in February, he will likely hear his name called early on Day 2. 

3. Jaxson Dart 

Ole Miss Rebels signal-caller Jaxson Dart has the potential to be the best quarterback in this year's draft class. Even though he probably won't be drafted in the first round, this is a quarterback who has shown significant improvements as a passer since transferring to Ole Miss before the 2022 season. 

His completion percentage, passing yards, and passing touchdowns all improved every season with the Rebels, and Dart is easily coming off the best college season of his career. He threw for 4,279 yards, 29 touchdowns, and six interceptions while completing 69.3 percent of his passes (276-of-398) in 2024. He also posted three separate games of at least 400 pass yards and four touchdowns this past year. 

Jaxson Dart is reportedly "training" to run an eye-popping time of between 4.55-4.65 in the 40-yard dash.

For reference, that would be faster than some of the NFL's most mobile QB’s including Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Cam Newton, and Andrew Luck.

Now, Dart isn't a complete prospect by any means, hence why he possibly finds himself going on Day 2 in the draft. However, his game is much more polished than both Ewers and Milroe. So, he has the chance to start right away in the NFL. 

2. Shedeur Sanders 

Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders should hear his name called early in the 2025 NFL Draft. That's because the Texas native put together a strong final college season. He threw for 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions while completing 74 percent of his passes (353-of-477). That 74 percent completion percentage ranked first in all of FBS in 2024.

It was truly a remarkable season for Sanders in 2024, who showed his potential throughout the season. He continued to play with poise in the pocket, and his accuracy had never been better. Those two key qualities should help him become a solid starter in the league right away. That's why the Colorado product will likely be drafted within the top three picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. 

The most likely landing spot for him appears to be the New York Giants at third overall. If he lands there, having an already elite wide receiver in Malik Nabers is going to be extremely important for his development. Either way, though, the tools are there for Sanders to succeed in the NFL. 

1. Cam Ward

After transferring from Washington State to Miami (FL), Cam Ward took his game to the next level in 2024. He threw for 4,313 yards, 39 touchdowns, and seven interceptions across 13 games. Ward also threw for over 300 yards and three touchdowns in eight of his 13 contests this past season. 

The Miami product is probably the most complete quarterback in this year's class, which is why he is the likeliest prospect to go first overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. The arm talent is there, and his calmness in the pocket is another important trait. The odds for Ward to go No. 1 to the Tennessee Titans currently sit at -140 at FanDuel Sportsbook. 

As a result, there's a great chance that Ward is the first name to be called on draft night. The Titans desperately need a quarterback, and the 22-year-old has the skill set to lead that Tennessee offense for years to come.
