The New Jersey Devils have acquired goaltender Jake Allen from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for a conditional third-round pick that can turn into a second-rounder based on Allen's games played with the Devils. The Canadiens are retaining 50% of Allen's $3.85 cap hit, a hit that runs through next season. Allen has struggled over the last two seasons, most recently posting a 3.65 goals-against average and an .892 save percentage across 21 starts, going 6-12-3 in that time. He was part of a three-goalie tandem with Montreal alongside Sam Montembeault and Cayden Primeau but could take over the No. 1 role with a Devils team that has received a 31st-ranked .883 Sv% from their goaltenders this season.--Brenton Kemp
