Chase Elliott had an average day at Martinsville Speedway on Saturday. The No. 9 Chevrolet was just 25th-fastest on the speed chart during the lone practice session, and in qualifying later that day, Elliott wound up 14th-fastest, which is where he will start on Sunday when the Xfinity 500 goes green. Martinsville has been a strong track for Chase in the past, as he has a victory here (back in 2020) as well as four podium finishes in 16 career starts. Additionally, in the races at Martinsville since the start of the 2020 season, Elliott has the third-best average finish and has led nearly one-fourth of all of the laps run. He should be considered a top-10 contender this weekend.--Jordan McAbee
