San Jose Sharks defenseman Radim Simek appears unlikely to be available for the club's regular-season opener on Oct. 12 against the Vegas Golden Knights due to a lower-body injury. He was expected to take part in practice on Monday but did not end up skating, as per head coach David Quinn. The 31-year-old was injured in the first period of a Sept. 27 preseason contest versus the Anaheim Ducks and has not played since. Not known for his offense, the blueliner tallied one goal and three points across 44 games last season and has seven goals and 29 points across 209 career games. The Czechia native could begin the season on injured reserve.--Brenton Kemp
