The Detroit Red Wings have acquired defenseman Jeff Petry in a trade with the Montreal Canadiens, giving up depth defenseman Gustav Lindstrom and a conditional fourth-round draft pick in 2025. Montreal also retains 50 percent of Petry's salary as part of the deal. The trade was announced less than two weeks after the Canadiens reacquired Petry from the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he spent only one season. A third trade in 13 months has led to somewhat of a homecoming for Petry, who was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan and played for Michigan State University. The 35-year-old had a decent 31-point campaign with 61 games played in 2023-24, and he should still provide quality minutes for a Red Wings team that will hope to avoid an eighth consecutive season without making it into the Stanley Cup Playoffs.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
