The Montreal Canadiens have acquired goaltender Casey DeSmith from the Pittsburgh Penguins. The 31-year-old netminder makes a move up north in a deal that also involved the San Jose Sharks. The Penguins gave up five players in total in the trade, along with a couple of draft picks, to land Erik Karlsson from San Jose. DeSmith has so far spent his entire career as a Penguin, posting a 58-44-15 record. He went 15-16-4 last season, registering a 3.17 goals-against average with a .905 save percentage. He'll be competing with Jake Allen and Sam Montembeault for playing time in Montreal.--Taavi Pailk
