Veteran defenseman Jeff Petry rejoined the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday in a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins and San Jose Sharks, but according to Sportsnet's Eric Engels, it's likely that he doesn't start the season with the team. Engels added that the Penguins have already paid Petry his $3 million signing bonus for the season and the Canadiens can retain 50 percent of his salary in a potential trade. Petry spent seven and a half seasons in Montreal before getting traded to Pittsburgh last July. He had a decent campaign with the team, recording 31 points (five goals, 26 assists) in 61 games with 111 blocks and 190 hits, but the Penguins upgraded him with reigning Norris Trophy winner Erik Karlsson in the trade. Petry is set to start the third season of a four-year, $25 million pact signed with the Canadiens in 2020.--Taavi Pailk
