Chase Elliott never got close enough to truly contend for the lead. Part of that was the Hendrick Motorsports Racing car never had enough speed to contend with Justin Haley and Shane Van Gisbergen. The other part was the No. 9 car was even busier fending off Kyle Larson and Kyle Busch. Elliott qualified 26th but it took him awhile to get closer to the front. He was 20th after Stage 1 and 25th after Stage 2. It was the final 30+ laps where Elliott started to make up track position. However, the closest he got was second before being passed by Van Gisbergen. After that, the best Elliott could do was third. --Chris Wassel - RotoBaller
