1 year agoPhiladelphia Phillies reliever Jose Alvarado (wrist) was unavailable for Tuesday's contest against the Toronto Blue Jays, as he's experiencing tightness in his left wrist, according to MLB.com. However, the 27-year-old isn't concerned and told reporters that he hopes to pitch Wednesday if the club needs him. Alvarado has enjoyed his best season so far in a Major League uniform, posting a 1.88 ERA, 46.2% strikeout rate, 0.70 WHIP, and has yet to walk anyone over 14.1 innings. The success has led manager Rob Thompson to use him as the primary closer, racking up a team-leading five saves. Fantasy managers should assume Alvarado holds onto that role if his dominance continues.--Spencer Seguin
