New Jersey Devils goaltender Akira Schmid got to celebrate his first career shutout as the team crushed Philadelphia 7-0 Saturday. The 22-year-old needed to make 23 saves to get his maiden shutout. Schmid was summoned from the minors earlier in the week to replace Mackenzie Blackwood (lower body) in the lineup. Saturday marked his eighth start of the campaign and Schmid is now 6-4-0 for the season with a 1.98 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage. Schmid's numbers in the AHL have also been good, as he has posted a 10-6-3 record with a 2.53 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
