Hello RotoBaller PGA crew! It's great to be back with you guys and I appreciate you joining us here at RotoBaller for your PGA DFS research. This week we'll dig into the FanDuel PGA DFS slate for the fifth event of the season.
In this article, we'll discuss some of the standout PGA DFS plays available on FanDuel for the 2022 Mayakoba Classic. While it's impossible to hit on every player, we'll touch on some different plays across all price ranges, breaking the groups down into "High", "Mid", and "Low" price options that are worth considering.

2022 Mayakoba Classic - PGA DFS Overview
El Camaleón Golf Course at Mayakoba: Par: 71, Yardage: 7,017 Greens: Paspalum
With a lot more seasoned PGA Tour players returning to this week's field, we have an exponential number of stats to lean on once again after last week's Korn Ferry conundrum. I reverse engineered the proximity buckets based off of a 300 yard drive on each hole and it makes sense why Viktor has played so well here. He leads the field in fairway proximity from 125-200 yards, which is where about half the shots come from each year.
Based off of these proximities above we have pro-rated our approach proximity buckets accordingly, dialed up the accuracy off the tee as well as the birdie or better scoring metric. The last six winners of this event have all found themselves at -20 or better. With scores this low, around the green play has been removed from our model and putting will be our sole short game driver of rankings. Course history will also play an important role in determining who we like here, as this course has seen a lot of the same people play well here each year.

Fantasy Golf Lineup Picks for FanDuel (PGA DFS)
Before we dive into the FanDuel plays for this week, we are going to be comparing the prices of golfers on the FD slate to that of the DraftKings slate, in order to figure out some value for the respective golfers. We get an extra $10,000 ($60,000 salary limit in FanDuel) to spend on the same six guys, so there is opportunity to build some really optimal lineups if we find the right guys. The average increase per player should be $1,666.67 ($10,000 / 6), but this week there is only an average increase of $1,265 so we should find some definite value.

High-Priced FanDuel DFS Plays
Below is the difference in salary between the two DFS platforms
Scottie Scheffler ($12,000)
As the highest priced golfer in the field, Scottie Scheffler only sees a $600 increase in salary from DraftKings (second smallest in field). He is one of the steadiest and deadliest ball strikers in the world, who simply has forgotten how to putt. His putting stats are horrible, but when watching him on TV he seemed to be super close on all of his putts. If he can bounce back with the flat stick on some easier Paspalum greens, Scheffler is going to find himself in the winner's circle for the fifth time this year, and first time this season.
Billy Horschel ($11,200)
Billy Horschel heads to Mexico with three T10s in his three starts since the Tour Championship. His iron play is what has him on the card at such a short number, as he leads the field in strokes gained approach in the 2023 season. He gained +6.6 strokes on approach at the CJ Cup. If he brings THAT kind of iron play to a course that suits his accuracy off the tee, Billy is going to have more birdie looks than the Amazon Birdwatchers Club, if such a club did exist. When Billy misses a green, his around the green play is third-best in field. With finishes of T33, T5, T8, and T21 at this course over the last five years, Billy is my favorite play in all markets.
Brendon Todd ($10,100)
Brendon Todd is only $100 more than the average salary we have to build a lineup of six golfers. He certainly is not an average player, particularly at this course, finishing T11, T8, and FIRST in three starts here. His accuracy off the tee and his elite putting are a match made in heaven for a venue like this, where jungle gobbles up errant tee shots, while holes gobble up birdie putts. Todd sees a $1,100 increase in salary from DK to FD which is of the smaller increases in this range. He may be a little popular, but at this price and with this course history, we are okay with that.

Mid-Priced FanDuel DFS Plays
Mid-priced salary differences. Notice how much more red we see in that far right column in this range versus the high-priced range. Bare that in mind when deciding which players to play on either platform.
Andrew Putnam ($9,500)
Andrew Putnam has one of the smallest increases in salary, but has seen one of the biggest increases in performance early in the 2023 season. In his five starts he has finished T29, T2, T12, T30, and T43, with his three best finishes being his three most recent starts. He now heads to a golf course that is not going to punish his 280-yard average driving distance, but reward his above -average accuracy off the tee. He has averaged +0.75 strokes putting in his 16 recorded rounds and that includes his first round of the season where he lost -3 strokes (+0.99 if we remove that). He is primed for success at this course.
Hayden Buckley ($9,300)
Although his DK vs FD value is a little steep, the dominance this golfer has shown on the ball striking front recently is scintillating. Hayden Buckley has hit 75% of his greens and fairways in his three finishes of T19, T20, and T5. We are getting a $7,500 golfer who has rattled off three top-20 finishes in his three starts this season. His putter seems to let him down when he gets close to the top of the leaderboard, but at this price and at this course, he stands a fantastic chance of leaning on his ball striking to notch his fourth top-20 in as many starts.
Matt Kuchar ($9,000)
If you are going to want to capitalize on Matt Kuchar's T22, T14, and FIRST-place finishes at this track, do it on FanDuel, where he is only $1000 more spendy than on DK, which, compared to his peers, is a bargain in this rather "valueless" price range. Kuchar's course history makes complete sense when looking at his player profile of shorter, accurate drives, coupled with one of the best putters in the field. Love him at this price on this platform.
Low-Priced FanDuel DFS Players
Zecheng "Marty" Dou ($8,100)
Another prime example of a salary saver, with even more value to his name when looking at the FanDuel slate, comes in the form of Zecheng Dou. He has been a super volatile player since joining the PGA Tour. At $8,100 if we could get a golfer who has finished T21, T54, MC, and T17 in his first four PGA Tour starts of the season, I think we would sign up for that. We are getting that with Marty. If he can keep his ball in the fairway at this course, he should find some success on the easier greens.
Danny Lee ($7,500)
A slightly cheaper, arguably better, play than John Huh, is Danny Lee. We are going to him for the exact same reason we like Huh, which is his slew of T7, T26, 2nd, T25, and T3 finishes in Mayakoba over the years. Nothing about his recent form screams that he is playing well, but Danny Lee appears to be the ultimate chameleon, blending his golf game into a successful recipe seemingly every time he tees it up here.
