Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson (lower body) isn't available for Monday's matchup versus Carolina. He will sit out his first game of the season after getting hurt in Saturday's 3-0 win over Nashville. The team considers him day-to-day, so Carlson doesn't appear to be very seriously hurt, but he might still end up missing multiple games, as the Capitals also take the ice Tuesday against Vegas. Trevor van Riemsdyk will skate in Carlson's place on the first defensive pairing Monday, while Matt Irwin gets a chance to enter the lineup for his season debut. Dmitry Orlov will take over from Carlson on the first power-play unit.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
