Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Ellis Canady reviews last night's MLB box scores (8/4) and provides fun opinions on a variety of topics to help fantasy baseball owners with their lineups.

Welcome to the Monday, August 5th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on August 5th. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings

  • Eloy Jimenez w/18HR, .235AVG. Not what I expected. This is not his best.
  • Impressive start to career w/ seven-game hit streak for Bo Bichette including two HR vs. KC & BAL. Five multi-hit games.
  • Trey Mancini w/53 XBH, one short of personal best.
  • Scooby Dooby Drew, where are you? Oh, there you are Drew Smyly. 5IP, 5ER, 7K.
  • Corey Dickerson w/fifth jalapeño popper. .316AVG. If he played every day in Philly, I’d be more interested.
  • Yonny concert w/small, excellent showing. 5IP, 1ER, 4K for Yonny Chirinos
  • Big Boy Pants, Big Boy Power. Jesus Aguilar w/a 446ft ’This Is Why You Brought Me Here!’ statement. They’ll want more statements than nine & .236AVG.
  • Shane Bieber in second-tier of excellence. Complete game w/2ER, 8K.
  • Yasiel Puig loves showing off the speed. 16SB
  • 103mph wait velo for 424ft bonanza for Francisco Lindor(20)
  • Oscar Mercado joins 400ft-club w/ninth HR.
  • Jason Kipnis, you cannot walk through the drive-thru. Your combo meal is ready though. 11HR/6SB.
  • Shane Greene is not who you thought he was. 1IP, 3ER, 1K.
  • Sonny Gray marvelous in no-decision. 7IP, 0ER, 4BB, 7K.
  • Little league dreams: “Bottom of the 9th, down 3-1, one out, one on.” Ronald Acuna = Pure excitement. 27HR, 25SB.
  • Josh VanMeter w/sneaky production (four stolen bases)
  • You weren’t supposed to be able to do this. Josh Donaldson w/26th HR.
  • Be thankful Noah Syndergaard got you the W. 3K is less inspiring.
  • Jeff McNeil w/412ft rainbow pony. 13HR. Current batting champ (.336).
  • J.D. Davis is gonna get more love. 11HR, .297AVG. 1B/3B/OF eligible. Only 7% owned.
  • Michael Conforto (22) still has a chance to reach 30 taters.
  • Thief! Thief! It was the Marte Bros. Starling Marte w/17SB. Ketel Marte (6SB….&….24th HR) COMBO MEAL!!!!
  • Sometimes, the little engine that could….actually, really can’t. Joe Musgrove 3.1IP, 8ER.
  • Justin Verlander w/15-Win Club ribbon-cutting ceremony.
  • I applaud Devin Smeltzer win. 6IP, 0ER, 4K. CLE next. I’ll pass.
  • Christian Yelich (37) wants the podium for himself.
  • Trent Grisham w/first major league homer. Playing time prevents me from jumping all-in.
  • It was Good Yu Darvish Day.
  • Danny Santana will save some rosters (17HR).
  • 13 games without any love. Nolan Arenado sends two love birds over the wall (24).
  • Trevor Story w/25 taters. 3.6WAR = 21st overall player.
  • Tanner Roark knows how to win the crowd. 7th win. Liam Hendriks w/keys to lock it down (11SV).
  • Patrick Corbin given rude return party to ARI. 5.1IP, 5ER, 5K.
  • Were you so bold to start Chris Paddack vs. LAD? 4IP, 6ER, 6K.
  • Kenta Maeda is not a starter. 2.2IP, 5ER, 4K.
  • Have a great Monday. Start the week off determined
  • No Fear, Just Fantasy.
