Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Welcome to the Wednesday, July 17th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on July 17th. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball draft tools and resources:

Daily Musings

  • Adalberto Mondesi. No fun. Injured shoulder. Awaiting MRI. Make alternate arrangements.
  • Back-to-Back days w/combo meals for Oscar Mercado. Up to 7HR/8SB. 25% Owned. Fantasy owners are fickle beings.
  • A.J. Pollock thanks you for your patience. HR in his last three games. 59% owned is sinfully low.
  • THUNDER!!! Christian Yelich(33) & Cody Bellinger(34) are past the point of showing off.
  • Kenley Jansen w/fourth BS. (0.1IP, 3ER, 0K). It happens. No concern.
  • Bryce Harper boosts RBI total w/five & 17th tater.
  • Edwin Encarnacion continues onslaught(28HR). Three HR in two games. Still only 86% Check your waivers. 40HR in the bag.
  • Austin Meadows struggling. Two HR in the last two games might help momentum. 76% owned. He’s available somewhere. Check now.
  • Austin Voth served as decent Max Scherzer replacement. 6IP, 1ER, 4K for 1st W.
  • Andrew Cashner to BoSox. Instant gratification non-existent w/5IP, 5ER, 2K. 4.09ERA(4.51FIP). Meh. 8.7%K-BB(2.19). 27.9%Chase rate. I’ll pass. How deep is your investment?
  • Hanser Alberto w/5HR, 4SB & .306AVGH in 291AB. You have piqued my interest. More in-depth research to see how deep a league must be to own him.
  • Xander Bogaerts HR(21) adds to team lead in extra-base hits(51)
  • Rowdy Tellez is gone, Justin Smoak holds all the cards at first base. 8HR, 18RBI, .211AVG in last month not comforting.
  • Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is not going to win the batting title. He still has value and I’d shake the branch to see what falls for a deal.
  • Logan Allen crunched by Marlins. Hard to swallow. 2.1IP, 7ER, 3BB, 0K. Cubs next, pass. SF following that might be interesting.
  • Ian Kinsler w/8HR, 20RBI, .217AVG does not a productive major leaguer make. Luis Urias time! Free the excitement.
  • Garrett Cooper giving power now. 4HR, 15HR, .316AVG last 15 days.
  • Jordan Yamamoto cruising w/5IP, 2ER, 4K. Gaining followers.
  • Robel Garcia 3rd HR, .348AVG begs for playing time. 42.3%K rate does not.
  • Eugenio Suarez not the .283 hitter of 2018. 7HR, 13RBI, .237AVG over last 15 days is tolerable.
  • Derek Dietrich w/22% ownership? Why? Own a Mercado which gives more tools.
  • Joey Gallo callin’ Baton Rouge w/429ft love letter (22).
  • Alex Young, you have my attention. 3-0, 0.95ERA(3.85FIP). .087BABIP & 100%LOB will not last. 15.4%K-BB is decent. 37.9%Chase & 14.4%SwingStrike rates are wonderful. BAL next. Solid streamer.
  • Dominic Smith production (& love) fell off quick.
  • Bryse Wilson not the streaming result people wanted (4IP, 4ER, 3BB, 1K). Matchup vs. Nats might not save the week.
  • Ronald Acuna ties rookie season SB total(16) to go with 23HR. Perennial 1st round talent.
  • This is Keston Hiura we wanted 4HR, 4SB, .357 over last 15 days. Only 47% owned? Say what?!
  • Brandon Woodruff holds Braves for 11th W.
  • Felipe Vázquz w/21st SV. Stay in Pittsburgh.
  • Carlos Martinez trying to make closer situation interesting w/two ER.
  • Eloy Jimenez to IL? Have some plans in mind if necessary.
  • Dylan Cease limited walks(1) in loss. 6IP, 4ER, 7K. Rays game next will not be easy.
  • Whit Merrifield not on a pace to come close to 45SB of 2018. But he has matched 12HR total
  • Mike Yastrzemski surprising people. 7HR, 24RBI, .252AVG.
  • Omar Narvaez provided two delicious pop tarts(16). Catcher needed this.
  • Underrated Matt Chapman soars again. HR(22) & five RBI.
  • Long road but Ramon Laureano has AVG up to .268 w/18HR/12SB.
  • Andrew Heaney keeps Astros in check, cant finish fifth inning though.
  • Have a great Wednesday. Sorry for the quickness. It's vacation time.
  • No Fear, Just Fantasy.
