Week 2 Fantasy Football Quarterback Outlooks

Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels (wrist) is off the team's injury report, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapport. Washington coach Dan Quinn downplayed the QB's throwing-wrist injury earlier this week, and it appears his lack of concern came to fruition, as Daniels will suit up when Washington takes on Green Bay on Thursday Night Football.

The Washington offense was slow to start in an unremarkable season-opening win against the New York Giants, but Daniels remains one of the very best options in any fantasy format due to his consistent rushing ability. He's still a starting option even against a tough Packers defense.

Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers

Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love is a low-end quarterback streamer for Thursday Night's Week 2 matchup against the Washington Commanders. As fantasy football's QB17 in Week 1, Love only had 22 pass attempts during Green Bay's 27-13 win over the Detroit Lions. He didn't have to do a lot of heavy lifting, but still threw two touchdown passes while falling just short of 200 yards passing. After the Packers' Week 10 bye, Green Bay was a very run-focused team where Love played game manager, which wasn't great for fantasy.

The Packers looked like a Super Bowl contender on the defensive side of the ball in Week 1, which doesn't bode well for fantasy production if opposing teams are not pushing them. Love can be treated as a QB2 in Superflex formats and a low-end streamer in single-quarterback leagues for Week 2.

Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers

According to Ian Rapport of the NFL Network, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (toe) will miss the next two to five weeks with turf toe. Purdy appeared on the team's injury report with a toe and left shoulder injury on Wednesday. However, it seems this injury is more serious than expected, and the team's QB1 could miss up to the next two weeks of action. As a result, Mac Jones is slated to serve as the starting quarterback for the foreseeable future.

In the season opener, Purdy went 26-for-35 with 277 passing yards and two scores en route to defeating the Seattle Seahawks. Last season, Jones saw starting opportunities filling in for the injured Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville. Jones averaged 205.5 passing yards in the eight games in which he logged more than 40 offensive snaps in 2024. He projects to be a risky QB2 in all fantasy formats in Week 2, facing the Saints.

Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence had an encouraging first-half showing in the Week 1 win over the Carolina Panthers, going 14-for-19 for 128 yards and a touchdown, but the Jags had a 20-3 lead at halftime and chose to go conservative in the second half. Lawrence finished 19-for-31 passing on the day for 178 yards, a touchdown, and an interception, so overall, his day didn't look all that great against a team that had the worst defense in the league in 2024.

This game also included a lengthy weather delay that could have interrupted the 25-year-old's rhythm in head coach Liam Coen's first game. While Lawrence's final stat line didn't jump off the page, he could be primed for a much better performance in a Week 2 date against a Cincinnati Bengals defense that was quite porous last year.

Daniel Jones, Indianapolis Colts

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones put together an unbelievable season debut on Sunday. He completed 22-of-29 passing attempts for 272 yards with one touchdown. Jones didn't stop there as he rushed seven times for 26 yards with an additional two scores.

I don't think anyone had Jones scoring three touchdowns on their opening week bingo card. It will get more challenging for Jones in Week 2 against a tough Denver Broncos defense. After that, Jones will play the Titans, Rams, and Raiders. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect another three-touchdown game for Jones in Week 2. However, he could be an interesting long-term option given the Colts do play some lackluster defenses early in the season.

Aaron Rodgers, Pittsburgh Steelers

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers turned back the clock in Week 1, completing 22 of 30 passes for 244 yards and four touchdowns in the Steelers' 34-32 win over the New York Jets. The 42-year-old quarterback completed passes to seven different receivers in Week 1 and looked fantastic in offensive coordinator Arthur Smith's scheme. Rodgers faces the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2, which should be an electric atmosphere in Acrisure Stadium.

The Seahawks allowed the 13th fewest fantasy points in 2024 and forced two interceptions off 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy. While the early excitement surrounding Rodgers and the Steelers' offense is evident, Rodgers should be on fantasy benches this week.

Michael Penix Jr., Atlanta Falcons

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. is shaping up as an early breakout candidate. Despite missing wide receiver Darnell Mooney (shoulder) in Week 1, the rookie delivered an impressive performance, completing 27 of 42 passes for 298 yards and a touchdown, while adding 21 rushing yards and another score on the ground. Penix's passing production was solid, but it was his mobility that should really excite fantasy managers. His ability to extend plays and contribute as a runner adds a valuable floor to his weekly outlook.

In Week 2, Penix gets a primetime stage on Sunday Night Football against the Minnesota Vikings, which is a rematch of the 2023 National Championship with J.J. McCarthy. The Vikings just allowed the ninth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks in Week 1 and entered the game shorthanded on defense. With both Drake London (shoulder) and Mooney practicing ahead of the matchup, Penix should have his full complement of weapons and projects as a potential starter in most fantasy formats.
