John's latest Micah Parsons injury news, updates for fantasy football. Will Micah Parsons play in Week 1 of the 2025 season, or is he injured and out?
New Green Bay Packers defensive end Micah Parsons (back), arguably the league's best pass-rusher, was traded to his new team from the Dallas Cowboys, who drafted him, for a package of a player and two first-round picks, and was signed to a massive contract extension.
The blockbuster traded made Parsons the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history, and Green Bay likely believes he was a big missing piece in their quest to return to the Super Bowl, where they haven't been since the 2011 season.
However, Parsons is dealing with injury issues, and though those were blown off by much of the media before the trade, it's now obvious that he has an aliment that's more serious than previously thought. So will Parsons play this season? Will he miss Week 1? And what's his fantasy football outlook for 2025?

Will Micah Parsons Play In Week 1?
There doesn't seem to be any danger of Parsons missing Week 1, either. Multiple reliable sources have indicated that he plans to take the field for the first game of the 2025 season, when the Packers take on the Detroit Lions, at 1:25 PM ET on Sunday.

That doesn't mean that he'll play all the snaps the team would plan for him if he were fully healthy, though. Apparently, he will play on either a snap count or in some kind of limited packages in which he's able to rest, to reduce the chance that he re-aggravates his injury and to keep him fresher.
How limited he'll be remains to be seen, and could even depend on how the game goes. It seems unlikely that the Packers will win by blowout and opt to rest Parsons, though, as Detroit is a very formidable divisional foe, with one of the league's best offenses over the past two seasons.
Will Parsons Play This Season?
Yes. It seems incredibly unlikely that Green Bay would have given up so many assets, and paid Parsons so much money, had there been real concern about Parsons' ability to take the field at all this season. Unless he suffers a season-ending injury at some point in 2025, you can expect to see him play.
Micah Parsons Fantasy Football Outlook
Parsons is, of course, one of the best defensive linemen to own in IPD leagues. Should he not deal with serious injuries all season, he's a must-start. The bigger question, though, is how his presence will affect the Packers D/ST in normal leagues.
Over the last four years, the Cowboys are the league's best defense with Micah Parsons on the field by EPA per play.
Across a 1,039-play sample, they're the league's second-worst defense over that same stretch by EPA per play when Parsons isn't on the field.

As was evidenced by film and basic and advanced statistics, Parsons' play had a transformative effect on the Cowboys defense in past seasons, elevating them from one of the league's worst when he wasn't on the field to one of its best. The Packers already have a solid pass rush, and this will further bolster it.
Pressure on quarterbacks is the great equalizer in the NFL, and Parsons and the Packers' other pass-rushers could generate significant duress for opposing signal-callers. The Packers D/ST should be regarded as having top-8 potential moving forward, and should be rostered in all leagues.
