Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 2:
Geno Smith, QB, Las Vegas Raiders
Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Geno Smith (hamstring) practiced in full on Thursday and did not appear on the injury report ahead of a Week 2 matchup with the Chargers. Smith opened the year strong, finishing as the QB11 in standard formats after throwing for 362 yards while leading all quarterbacks in yards per completion (15.1).
Chip Kelly's creative offense appears to be unlocking the best in Smith, positioning him as a steady low-end QB1/high-end backup option moving forward.
This week's matchup offers upside, as the Chargers surrendered the 11th-most passing yards in Week 1, giving Smith a prime opportunity to exploit an underwhelming secondary.
Nico Collins, WR, Houston Texans
Houston Texans wide receiver Nico Collins was limited to just three catches for 25 yards in his team's Week 1 loss to the Rams, but he will look to bounce back this week at home against the Buccaneers on Monday Night Football. Collins only had five targets in Week 1, but he did still tie for the team lead.
He played 53 of 63, by far the most among Texans' receivers, but the team's offense could never get much going against Los Angeles. They'll look to turn things around in Week 2, and Collins is the No. 7 WR in the RotoBaller rankings coming into his matchup against Tampa Bay, who allowed Drake London eight catches in Week 1.
For the Texans' offense to turn things around, they'll need to get their superstar more involved on Monday, and if he gets a high target volume, he could put together a monster game.
Najee Harris, RB, Los Angeles Chargers
Los Angeles Chargers running back Najee Harris saw limited action in Week 1, with just one carry and one catch, each for five yards. He was gradually brought back into the lineup after a limited offseason following a superficial eye injury in July.
Harris has been practicing in full and is ready to take on a further workload against the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday night. Although the veteran's conditioning and readiness for the game may have improved, with Omarion Hampton clearly established as the lead back, Harris's workload should stay limited for another week.
RotoBaller projects him as RB45, and fantasy managers should keep him on their bench in Week 2 against Las Vegas while monitoring his role in the Chargers' backfield in the upcoming weeks.
Ladd McConkey, WR, Los Angeles Chargers
Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Ladd McConkey put up solid numbers in the team's Week 1 win against the Kansas City Chiefs, catching six passes on nine targets for 74 yards. Although he didn't score a touchdown, his high target volume and 100% route participation immediately established him as a top option in a pass-heavy offense.
This week, he faces a favorable matchup against Las Vegas Raiders cornerback Darnay Holmes, which should further boost his outlook. However, it's worth noting that he had no red-zone targets last week, which could limit his scoring upside.
Despite this, his consistent target share from Justin Herbert makes him a reliable option with a high ceiling in this matchup. He is a must-start and RotoBaller's WR9 for the week.
Jakobi Meyers, Las Vegas Raiders
Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers cemented himself as the offense's most reliable option in Week 1, drawing 10 targets and converting eight into 97 yards. As the veteran presence in a young receiving corps, Meyers has quickly earned the trust of Geno Smith, thriving as a chain-mover while Tre Tucker and Dont'e Thornton Jr. stretch the field vertically.
The veteran receiver's high-volume role makes him a consistent fantasy asset, and if Brock Bowers (knee) is sidelined, Meyers could see an even larger workload as the Raiders lean on his reliability.
Ranked as RotoBaller's WR22 for Week 2, Jakobi Meyers should be locked into starting lineups across all formats. Start him with confidence in Week 2.
