Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 12:
Kareem Hunt, RB, Chiefs
Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt scored a rushing touchdown for the third consecutive game in his team's 22-19 Week 11 loss to the Denver Broncos. The 30-year-old finished the game with 13 carries for 59 yards and one score. With Isiah Pacheco (knee) sidelined by a knee injury, Hunt has taken over as Kansas City's lead rusher in the team's last two games. While he's not an explosive player at this point in his career, Hunt has six rushing touchdowns on the season and has proven to be an effective goal-line rusher.
Pacheco could return in Week 12 against the Indianapolis Colts, which would cause Hunt to lose a few touches. However, Hunt seems likely to retain his goal-line role even when Pacheco gets back on the field. In leagues where Hunt remains available, he could be worth targeting on the waiver wire as a touchdown-dependent flex option for fantasy managers.
DK Metcalf, WR, Steelers
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf turned in yet another disappointing performance in Week 11, securing five of eight targets for 49 yards in a victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers (wrist) exited the contest at halftime and is currently considered questionable to play in Week 12 with a fractured left wrist. If Rodgers can't go, Metcalf will be catching passes from Mason Rudolph, who hasn't started a game since Week 17 of last season.
Regardless of who is under center, it is becoming increasingly difficult to trust Metcalf, as he has scored fewer than 10 fantasy points in three straight games. On the bright side, Pittsburgh will face the Chicago Bears on Sunday. The Bears have surrendered the fifth-most fantasy points to opposing wideouts, keeping Metcalf in play as a boom-or-bust WR2.
Jameson Williams, WR, Lions
Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams recorded four receptions for 88 yards and a touchdown on seven targets in Sunday night's 16-9 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Williams scored the Lions' only touchdown of the night on an explosive 40-yard catch and run in the second quarter in what was otherwise a tough offensive performance against the Eagles' stout defense.
The 24-year-old wideout continued his strong run of production in recent games, now totaling 14 catches on 20 targets for 273 yards and three touchdowns over the past three weeks after their Week 8 bye, averaging 20.1 PPR points per game. With Sam LaPorta (back) placed on injured reserve earlier this week, Williams will have a runway for a strong second half of the season after a disappointing first seven games.
Travis Etienne Jr., RB, Jaguars
Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. had 19 carries, 73 rushing yards, and two rushing touchdowns during Sunday's Week 11 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. He was unable to haul in either of his two targets in the passing game. Etienne ceded early-game touches to Bhayshul Tuten (ankle), but then the rookie left the game with an injury, clearing the way for Etienne to re-establish himself as the lead back. The 26-year-old took full advantage of the opportunity, helping fuel a 35-6 upset victory at home.
If Tuten is healthy in Week 12, we could see somewhat of a 50/50 backfield split, as both running backs have proven that they are effective and can provide a spark. In a split backfield, Etienne is a low-end RB2. However, he would jump to the RB1 tier if he operates as the workhorse or if Tuten misses time.
