Arizona Diamondbacks top prospect Jordan Lawlar continues to post great numbers in Triple-A and is making a strong case that he's ready to join the MLB roster. After battling injuries the last few seasons, he has been healthy and productive so far in 2025, and he could get his chance to have a long-awaited breakout soon.
Lawlar has been on the fantasy baseball radar for a few seasons, as he has been considered the Diamondbacks' "shortstop of the future" for several years. MLB Pipeline ranked him as the team's No. 3 prospect back in 2022 and the No. 2 prospect behind Corbin Carroll in 2023. He has been the team's No. 1 prospect each of the last two seasons, but he's still making up for last year's lost season.
But when will the Diamondbacks call up Lawlar? Can we expect him to make his debut in May? Let's dive in and find out.

Jordan Lawlar Prospect Update for Fantasy Baseball
Lawlar was drafted at No. 6 overall in 2021 and climbed to the MLB by the end of 2023. He played 20 games that fall for the Dbacks but went only 4-for-31 (.129) with four singles, two walks, 11 strikeouts, and one stolen base. He was expected to compete for a starting job in 2024, but he never even made an MLB appearance.
He ended up getting just 104 plate appearances in 26 games between Triple-A Reno, Double-A Amarillo, and the Arizona Complex League. He hit .318 with two homers and six stolen bases, but the injuries to his thumb and later his hamstring ultimately cost him most of the season.
This year, he had a strong spring training, but the team prioritized his need to play every day and sent him to Triple-A Reno. The 22-year-old is mashing at Triple-A, though, hitting .356 with 11 doubles, two triples, five home runs, a .474 wOBA, a .644 slugging percentage, and 12 stolen bases in 26 games.

Lawlar is clearly showing he's healthy and ready to contribute, but the Diamondbacks don't have an easy spot to slot him into. They agreed to a long-term deal with shortstop Geraldo Perdomo and inked second baseman Ketel Marte to an extension at the start of the season. Even with Marte sidelined by a hamstring injury, the team hasn't promoted Lawlar quite yet. They could look to get him work at 3B as well, but Eugenio Suarez has been productive from the hot corner this season as well.
In Reno, the team has gotten him playing time at 2B, SS, and 3B, although the majority of his time has come at 2B. The situation could shift suddenly due to injury or trade, and if Lawlar gets the call, he should be ready to make a splash.
Jordan Lawlar Outlook for Fantasy Baseball
While we don't know when Lawlar will get the call, his dual-threat upside and potential premium spot in a productive lineup will make him a fantastic addition.

If you have the flexibility to stash Lawlar, he could receive the call at any time and be a great option. He's higher risk than some other prospects since the team has not made their plans for his promotion clear, and they could allow him to continue to get regular playing time in Reno. He's looked so good, though, that he may force his way onto the MLB roster very soon in a utility role, which could make him even more valuable for fantasy due to his versatility.
