Kicker Streamers to Target for Week 18

Only kickers rostered in fewer than 60% of fantasy football leagues are considered streamers.

Charlie Smyth (NO) at Atlanta Falcons
5% Rostered

Charlie Smyth joined the Saints' practice squad earlier in November and has run away with the starting job. Since making his NFL debut in Week 13, the Northern Ireland native has gone 11-for-14 on field goals and made all 14 of his extra points.

While he averaged just 1.7 field goal attempts throughout his first three games of his career, he has been on a tear the past two games of the campaign, and his production has skyrocketed with the emergence of rookie QB Tyler Shough. Over his last two games, Smyth has attempted nine field goals and converted on seven of them. During this stretch, he has hit all six of his extra points.

More importantly, Smyth's ceiling has been raised due to his ability to convert from deep. Over the last two games, Smyth has gone 3-for-4 on field goals from 50+ yards and is coming off a perfect 2-for-2 showing from 50+ yards out during their victory over the Tennessee Titans.

In Week 18, Smyth has a prime matchup against the Falcons, who have allowed the seventh-most PPR points per game to opposing kickers. This game will also be played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, a dome, which is always favorable for kickers. His elite raw power makes him a fringe top-12 upside when looking for upside.

Will Reichard (MIN) vs. Green Bay Packers
25% Rostered

Will Reichard is putting together a dominant campaign and would be widely rostered if his offense were consistent. Starting QB J.J. McCarthy (hand) could return in Week 18 and was beginning to turn the offense around, which could raise Reichard's ceiling even more in the season finale. Even if Max Brosmer is given another start, Reichard still holds top-12 upside facing the Packers.

Over his last two games, Reichard has attempted to kick three field goals in each game and hit three total extra points. He enjoyed one of the best showings of his league last week as he went 2-for-2 from 50+ yards out, with his other conversion coming from 40-49 yards out. Since Week 7, Reichard has gone 22-for-23 and a perfect 19-for-19 on extra points.

Even though he is facing a tougher Green Bay defense, Tyler Loop of the Ravens went 2-for-2 and attempted five extra points last weekend against them. Reichard carries elite upside given his ability to convert from deep and safe floor, given his near-perfect FG% this season.

Cairo Santos (CHI) vs. Detroit Lions
20% Rostered

When attempting to avoid the bust at the kicker position, managers must take two important factors into mind: the matchup and their offense. Fortunately, Cairo Santos hits on both of these benchmarks in Week 18. The Bears enter Week 18 averaging the third-most total yards per game and a solid 26.6 total PPG.

During their loss to the 49ers on Sunday night, the Bears dropped 38 points. In this loss, Santos attempted just one field goal but was able to hit all five of his field goals, which saved his fantasy day. In Weeks 15 and 16, Santos attempted two field goals in every game and hit a total of five extra points (on five attempts).

While his ceiling is much lower than Reichard's and Smyth's, as he has only attempted two field goals from 50+ yards since Week 9, he has a prime matchup to stay busy on the scoresheet. He will face a struggling Detroit defense that has allowed the 13th-most PPR points to opposing kickers.

On Christmas Day, Reichard attempted three field goals against them, and the week prior, Chris Boswell of the Steelers attempted three as well and added three extra points. When looking for a floor, Santos may be your safest option.

Kickers to Avoid for Week 18

Chad Ryland (ARI) at Los Angeles Rams
5% Rostered

Since Week 9, Chad Ryland has only attempted more than two field goals in one game. Throughout this nine-game stretch, the 26-year-old kicker has averaged just 2.0 extra point attempts per game and has hit this mark just once over his last two. This past week, the Arizona offense took a massive step back against the Bengals, scoring just 16 total points.

Ryland did not attempt a field goal and only made two extra points.

Fantasy managers should not expect his production to take a step forward in improving a stout Los Angeles Rams defense. Entering their contest on Monday night, the Rams have allowed the sixth-fewest PPR points to opposing kickers. Given that Ryland is not seeing the volume of attempts, managers should not trust him with their fantasy title on the line.

Cameron Dicker (LAC) at Denver Broncos
90% Rostered

Cameron Dicker has been a set-it-and-forget kicker this season and enters Week 18 as the No. 4 kicker in overall scoring.

However, managers should look to pivot to an alternative option ahead of the final week of the campaign. On Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that the Chargers are expected to rest QB Justin Herbert, among other key starters, as they cannot compete for the division title and are locked into a wild-card position.

With their playoff seeding all but clinched and forced to travel on the road in Wild Card weekend, Jim Harbaugh will opt to ensure his starters are ready for the opening round of the postseason instead of a near-meaningless regular season finale.

On the other hand, the Broncos expect to deploy their first-stringers as they can still take the top seed in the AFC. Managers should not expect Trey Lance to bring Dicker into a scoring position on the road against one of the league's most potent defensive units.

Harrison Butker (KC) at Las Vegas Raiders
60% Rostered

The final kicker to consider keeping on the bench is Harrison Butker of the Kansas City Chiefs. Like Dicker, Butker has been a high-end option throughout the majority of his career and enters Week 18 sitting just outside the top 12 in overall scoring. However, given the current state of the Chiefs' offense, Butker is not worth trusting in Week 18.

During his first career start on Christmas night, Chris Oladokun went 13-for-22 with 66 yards and one passing score. In their loss to the Broncos, the Chiefs totaled just 139 yards of offense. The previous week, facing the Titans, Gardner Minshew and Oladokun led this offense to tally only 133 yards.

Despite facing a weak Las Vegas defense that sits near the middle of the action in terms of PPR points allowed to opposing kickers, Butker is a must-sit given the subpar play under center. Managers should instead pivot to Smyth when looking for upside.
