Ty Buttrey (RP, LAA) - Week 4 Waiver Wire Pickups

Kyle Bishop profiles Angels RP Ty Buttrey as a waiver wire pickup and add in Week 4 of the 2019 MLB season.

BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues

OWNED IN: 11% of leagues

ANALYSIS: Save speculation seems even more fraught than usual in 2019, but the proliferation of committee approaches has made locking down consistent saves even more critical in many formats. Ty Buttrey doesn't currently have a grip on the ninth inning or even a save to his credit so far, but he's one of the best reliever targets out there - and he's available in almost 90 percent of Yahoo leagues.

The 26-year-old acquitted himself well in his first taste of the majors last year, striking out 20 batters over 16 innings while also inducing ground balls and pop ups at a high rate. He's been even better in the early going this year, with 12 strikeouts and just one walk in seven innings. Cody Allen is a veteran with years of closing experience and has yet to blow a save, but there's plenty of ugliness in his peripherals. It's only a matter of time until that catches up to him, and when that happens, Buttrey could easily usurp the closer role. In the meantime, you can roster him for the boost in strikeouts and ratios.
