The Cut List - Players on the Chopping Block (Week 14)

This is your weekly list of players to drop. I will do my best to limit this list to injured players and players you might consider holding. If you roster pure handcuffs or backups, obviously you can let them go at any time. The players on this list will, ideally, be guys that aren't clearly droppable, but no longer worth owning.

Below are my Week 14 cuts and drops for fantasy football. Each week from now until the end of the season, I’ll be offering my thoughts on players who don’t deserve to keep a roster spot on your fantasy football teams.

Players to Consider Dropping or Replacing

Brandin Cooks (WR, LAR)

Between the concussions, the bad matchups, Sean McVay's incompetent play calling and Jared Goff's incompetent play, it was justifiable to wait and see what happened against Arizona's swiss cheese defense. We have our answer. Goff lit it up for over 400 yards and Brandin Cooks managed just 24 of them. He saw two targets. For comparison, Robert Woods saw 19. Cooks hasn't scored since Week 2 and has three double digit fantasy point games all season. He just isn't a part of the offense anymore.

Tevin Coleman (RB, SF)

All season, Kyle Shanahan has refused to give any running back more than roughly half the snaps. It didn't matter how well Tevin Coleman would play in any given game, Matt Breida, Raheem Mostert, or Jeff Wilson was involved. That all changed last week when Shanahan finally had enough of Coleman and decided Mostert was his guy. Coleman was relegated to just a handful of snaps in the second half while Mostert dominated. With Breida likely to return this week, expect it to be a Mostert and Breida committee. Coleman is cooked.

Jonathan Williams (RB, IND)

That was fun while it lasted. Hey, at least Jonathan Williams gave fantasy owners a game, which is more than we can say about Ty Johnson and Brian Hill. Williams went from touching the ball 30 times to falling behind Nyheim Hines in snaps and ceding just as many to Jordan Wilkins. Marlon Mack plans on returning this week and it seems like Week 15 is the latest he will come back. The Colts will turn back to Mack the instant they can, relegating Williams to what I expect to be a healthy scratch.

David Johnson (RB, ARI)

Unfortunately, David Johnson simply couldn't be placed on this list sooner as it was abundantly clear he was playing hurt and it was possible the bye week could change things. Nope. Kenyan Drake started and even with Chase Edmonds healthy, Drake was used as the feature back. No one on the Cardinals played well, but Drake was the one out there. Johnson did look better than in previous weeks in limited action, but it's hard to buy that he's anything more than a breather back at this point.

Jaylen Samuels (RB, PIT)

Mike Tomlin hates Jaylen Samuels. He pushed random running backs that will never play again over him. He is pushing Benny Snell over him. It looks like James Conner will return this week. It's not happening for Samuels in Pittsburgh.

Players You May Be Considering Dropping, But Shouldn't

This late in the season, you can pretty much drop anyone you don't have immediate use for. If you are fighting for a playoff spot, your sole focus should be on doing what you need to do to get in. If you are safely in the playoffs, you should be looking ahead to Weeks 14, 15, and 16 and focusing on putting players on your bench that could be beneficial during the three playoff weeks. It is unlikely that any specific player appears here again.
