Spencer Schwellenbach is a fantasy baseball waiver wire pickup for Week 19 (2024). Target Spencer Schwellenbach as a starting pitcher free agent waiver wire add for fantasy baseball.
ANALYSIS: If you were still skeptical about "Schwelly" and his talent before yesterday, the rookie right-hander likely erased any doubts about his stuff with a dominant outing against the Mets.
Schwellenbach struck out 11 Mets while allowing just two hits and zero walks over seven scoreless frames.
This is just one start after he had set a career-high in strikeouts by punching out eight Cardinals over six frames. He now has six or more strikeouts in six of his last seven starts and lowered his ERA to 4.06 and his WHIP to 1.06 on the season.
Schwellenbach has electric stuff with a high-90s fastball and several different breaking pitches. He also possesses elite control that we rarely see from young pitchers as he's walked just 10 hitters over his first 57 innings.
His next start is against Miami, a team that just traded away their best hitter and could still be in the market to deal their best remaining hitter (Josh Bell). Miami is also striking out against RHP at a 27% rate, which is the second-worst mark of any team over the last month.
Schwellenbach is a fine addition in any format and is rounding into form before our eyes.
