Should I stash Max Meyer in redraft leagues? What is his fantasy outlook for the rest of the year? Joey Pollizze breaks down if fantasy managers should stash Max Meyer in redraft formats heading into Week 17.
Since being drafted third overall in the 2020 MLB Draft, Miami Marlins' No. 3 prospect, Max Meyer, has proved he can be a great pitcher in the majors. In 2021, he finished with a 2.27 ERA and 130 strikeouts across 22 starts at Double-A and Triple-A.
Then, in 2022, Meyer had a 3.69 ERA across 13 starts before being promoted to the major league roster in the middle of July. However, after just two starts, he landed on the injured list and shortly underwent Tommy John surgery.
Meyer, though, fully recovered from that injury and started the 2024 campaign with the Marlins' major league club. But the team eventually sent him down in April following three starts. So, should fantasy managers stash MLB Pipeline's No. 81 overall prospect? Let's dive in and find out.
Max Meyer's 2024 Season
It has surely been a strange year for Meyer. He started the season with the major league club and looked great in his first three starts of 2024. After throwing six innings of one-run ball against the Atlanta Braves on April 13, the right-hander lowered his ERA to 2.12 in those three outings.
However, Miami immediately sent down Meyer following that outing to preserve his innings. The Marlins were always going to limit the 25-year-old's workload in 2024, especially after he missed the entire 2023 campaign with an elbow injury.
A beautiful sight 👁️👁️
As Max Meyer nears his return to the majors, he pitched into the 6th(!) inning for the first time since going down to Triple-A.

As a result, Meyer has pitched down at Triple-A Jacksonville over the past few months, where he currently owns a 4.89 ERA across 13 starts. The right-hander struggled a bit in his first couple of outings there but has since settled down. He has allowed just one earned run and 10 strikeouts in his last 10 2/3 innings pitched.
Should I Stash Max Meyer In Redraft Leagues?
Despite pitching down in Triple-A since the end of April, Meyer should find his way up to the big leagues again very shortly. He has pitched well as of late and just threw six innings in his most recent outing on July 9. Those six innings are the most he has thrown in one start since April 13 against the Braves.

As a result, he could be called up to the active roster in the coming weeks. Given the way Meyer looked in his first three major league starts in 2024, he should be stashed in most 12-plus team leagues heading into Week 17.
