When is Junior Caminero getting called up? Will Junior Caminero play in July of this MLB season? Read about Junior Caminero’s debut date and fantasy baseball prospect updates for 2024.
The Tampa Bay Rays are currently sitting at 58-57, and they find themselves five and a half games out of the third AL Wild Card spot. Despite trading away key players like Randy Arozarena and Amed Rosario, they've managed to maintain a winning record.
On top of that, the Rays boast one of the most exciting prospects in baseball: Junior Caminero. After appearing in seven games with the Rays last year, Caminero (and fantasy managers) is awaiting another chance to make an impact at the major league level.
Caminero, 21, is the third-ranked prospect according to MLB Pipeline. He has played well in both Rookie Ball and Triple-A this season and has made a strong case for a call-up to the show. In 57 games (229 at-bats) split across the two levels of play, he is slashing .267/.333/.511 with 15 HR and 38 RBI. He has been particularly hot as of late, slashing .310/.356/.548 in his last 10 games.
How High Is Junior Caminero’s Fantasy Potential?
Caminero’s rapid development and power at the plate make him an exciting fantasy baseball asset. The right-handed slugger consistently crushes pitches with exit velocities that could easily rank among the top in the Major Leagues—even without accounting for his age.

His recent hot streak–as highlighted above—suggests he's ready for a major league call-up. Once he’s in the majors, his ability to contribute across multiple categories will make him a must-roster player in fantasy leagues, offering significant upside for those who stash him early.
When Might Junior Caminero Get A Major League Opportunity?
It seems inevitable that Caminero will be called up soon. The Rays’ lineup is thin enough that promoting him could provide a significant boost, whether they’re making a playoff push or auditioning for next year. Adding Caminero to the roster feels like a necessary move.
Some might argue that the Rays are waiting until September (or just before) to call him up to preserve his rookie eligibility for next year. But even if that’s the case, Caminero remains one of my top prospects to stash.
Once he gets the call, Caminero has the kind of talent that can immediately impact his team’s fortunes. Keep an eye out for news regarding Caminero's return to the big leagues.
