Is Jackson Jobe a fantasy baseball waiver-wire stash? Andy discusses the fantasy baseball outlook for redraft leagues for the rest of the 2024 season.
Detroit Tigers starting pitching prospect Jackson Jobe is considered not only one of the best pitching prospects in baseball but one of the best rising stars in the game.
Jobe was drafted with the third overall pick of the 2021 MLB Draft out of Heritage High School and has looked sharp in the minor leagues ever since.
The 21-year-old recently recovered from a hamstring injury that kept him sidelined since early May and could push for a late-season major league debut if he gets himself back on track.
How High is Jackson Jobe's Fantasy Baseball Potential?
The No. 9 overall prospect on MLB Pipeline and No. 2 overall right-handed pitching prospect (second to only Paul Skenes) has showcased elite strikeout potential throughout the minor leagues.
Jobe struck out 71 batters through his first 61 ⅔ innings at Single-A in 2022 and then proceeded to carry that momentum into a small taste of High-A before the end of the season.

Then, in 2023, Jobe spent the majority of the season with High-A and held a strong 3.60 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and 3:54 BB:K ratio through 40 innings.
This season, he joined Double-A Erie for the first time and continued to showcase his elite potential with a 2.16 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and 10:24 BB:K ratio. Unfortunately, his hamstring injury kept him idle for a period of time, but he recently made a rehab appearance with High-A, so it can be expected that the 21-year-old will return to Erie very soon.

When Might Jackson Jobe Get a Major League Opportunity?
While his potential is unquestionable, it is difficult to see him making his major league debut no earlier than August. Jobe has only logged 16 ⅔ innings with Double-A and should expect to see at least a few starts at Triple-A before joining Detroit.

However, in the past week, fantasy managers have seen young arms like Spencer Schwellenbach and Drew Thorpe make the jump from Double-A to the major leagues, so it could be possible.
More often than not, teams tend to lean on the side of caution with their budding superstars. If Detroit can climb back into the playoff picture, Jobe could bring a much-needed spark to the back end of the rotation.
For now, he should be stashed in all dynasty and keeper formats and left on the waiver wire in redraft leagues.
