Time to Drop Travis Hunter? Fantasy Football Week 5 Waiver Wire Outlook (2025)

Travis Hunter - Fantasy Football Rookie Rankings

Should I drop Travis Hunter for fantasy football Week 5? Is Travis Hunter a safe player to cut? Read the fantasy football waivers outlook.

The Jacksonville Jaguars traded up to the No. 2 spot in April's draft to select top WR/DB prospect, Travis Hutner out of Colorado.

After spending most of the preseason and training camp with the offense, Hunter saw his fantasy stock soar during the summer and was expected to be the team's clear No. 2 WR. However, the usage has not been as expected, and he has seen his production decline steadily.

Should fantasy managers drop Hunter from their roster? Let's dive in!

Should I Drop Travis Hunter in Fantasy Football?

In Week 1, Hunter was immediately given a lead role in the offense, as he caught six of his eight targets for 33 yards. However, in Weeks 2 and 3, Hunter took a steep step back, catching only four total passes (on eight targets) for 43 yards.

However, this past weekend, Hunter was able to post a single-game high in yards (with 42) on three catches during the victory over the Jaguars.

Despite this, fantasy managers are concerned with his upside as the team is not providing Hunter with an every-down role in the offense. After logging 64% of the snps in Week 1, Hunter has failed to eclipse the 60% snap share mark in each of his last three games. Instead, tight end Brenton Strange and No. 3 WR Parker Washington have emerged as key contributors in the passing attack.

Even though his fantasy stock appears to be trending in the wrong direction, fantasy managers outside of 10-team 2-WR leagues should not consider dropping Hunter. The upside he has shown when given the ball is quite high, and could very well see his target share climb as he grows more accustomed to the offense.

Who Should I Pickup for Fantasy Football?

While managers in standard leagues should not cut ties with the former second overall pick, there are other wide receivers to target on the waiver wire who could be more optimal players in the immediate future.

In Dallas, with CeeDee Lamb (ankle) sidelined for at least the foreseeable future, Jalen Tolbert has moved up the depth chart and has carved out a lead role. During their Week 4 tie to the Packers, Tolbert caught four of his six targets for 61 yards. He is set to face a struggling New York Jets defense in Week 5 and could have FLEX appeal in deeper formats.

In addition, in the same matchup last weekend, Packers wideout Romeo Doubs established himself as Jordan Love's go-to option with Jayden Reed (collarbone) sidelined and Matthew Golden still developing in the offense. In this game, Doubs caught his second, third, and fourth touchdowns of the young season in this high-scoring affair.

Lastly, managers should also look to target either Wan'Dale Robinson or Darius Slayton from the New York Giants, as both should have a larger role with Malik Nabers (knee) done for the season.

However, if Hunter can see a slightly larger role, he should be able to surpass Washington on the depth chart and finally claim a full-time role. Given his talent, when he sees that higher target share, he could push for WR2 upside weekly.
