ANALYSIS: Earlier today, Tigers closer Justin Wilson was officially traded to the Cubs in a package deal. Shane Greene will now take over as the new Detroit closer, and manager Brad Ausmus confirmed that earlier today.
Greene has pitched well this season with a 2.74 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 50:25 K:BB ratio in 46 innings pitched. He hasn't allowed a run in his last 13 appearances, and has held opponents to a .188 batting average overall.
If you are in a league that values saves, Greene is a solid waiver wire add. The Tigers have had 40 save opportunities in 2017, tied for 8th most in the majors, so the chances should be there. At this time of year any closer can help if you are hunting for saves, and Greene has upside for more. He is only 27% owned in Yahoo leagues.
