One and Done Selections - The U.S. Open Tournament

In this feature, our golf staff of Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar, Joe Idone, Matt Miller, Byron Lindeque, and our special guest will provide their weekly golf picks every Wednesday. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!

Joe Nicely - Max Homa

Are we sure that I can’t use Scottie Scheffler again? I said in my Masters' write-up for this article that in my decade or so of doing this, no player had ever graded out higher for me in a major championship than Scheffler this year at Augusta. Well…that was only the case for about two months, as Scottie has again broken the barrier for me this week, so do with that information what you will.

Unfortunately, I no longer have the World’s No. 1 player available to me in this contest at Pinehurst No. 2. That’s the case for many of the game’s top golfers, who I have already burned through many of en route to the year’s third major. I do, however, still have the man who ended last year as perhaps the best player in the game before heading into the dark wilderness of swing changes at the outset of 2024.

After reuniting with his former coach, it appears as though Viktor Hovland is starting to see the light again. This U.S. Open layout is a perfect fit for an “in-full-form” Hovland, as his excellence from T2G should shine, while his shortcomings around the green could be masked by being able to putt instead of chip in many instances at Pinehurst. If Vik’s recent resurgence is the real deal and not just a glimmer of hope to his longtime backers like myself, the kid could be a serious contender this week.

Spencer Aguiar - Ludvig Aberg

Alternate - Min Woo Lee

Needing a home run here at Pinehurst, I am going to take a swing for the fence on a potentially injured golfer in Ludvig Aberg.

My model loved Aberg's driving acumen and fit for the venue. Will it be rewarded? Maybe. But I think this route makes more sense when win equity is going to go a long way with my reduced board of names.

Yearly Earnings - $6,935,199
Yearly Cuts Made - 18/21

Byron Lindeque

Yearly Earnings - $6,978,367
Yearly Cuts Made - 18/21

Mia The Model - Brooks Koepka

Alternate - Jason Day
