RotoBaller PGA: One And Done Staff Picks - The Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches

The PGA RotoBaller staff digs into their One and Done selections for The Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches. Here are some under-the-radar plays and picks for this week's event.

Here at RotoBaller, we are always searching for ways to give our readers the best fantasy sports content possible. With that goal in mind, we are very proud to announce the weekly PGA “One and Done” column will be back for the sixth season.

For an in-depth breakdown of the top DraftKings and FanDuel plays, check out Joe Nicely's weekly Horse For The Course, which highlights the best fits for the week's course. And you can also find out who the smart money is on by checking out Spencer Aguiar's PGA DFS: Vegas Report every week.

One and Done Selections - The Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches

In this feature, our golf staff of Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar, Joe Idone, Matt Miller, Byron Lindeque, and our special guest will provide their weekly golf picks every Wednesday. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!

Joe Nicely - Russell Henley

Alternate -

Though his name doesn’t have the superstar cache of a Rory McIlroy, Russell Henley is a true pro's pro who has quietly performed like a star in previous trips to PGA National. The UGA alum actually beat McIlroy in a playoff to take home the 2014 Honda Classic title on this layout. Since that big victory, Henley has gone on to add four more top-25 finishes to his event CV, including going T3-T8 in his most recent Honda/Cognizant appearances.

He's opened 2024 in unsurprisingly good form, posting a T4 at the Sony Open and a top-25 at Riviera, gaining strokes both T2G and on Approach in all three of his starts this year and I expect that good form to continue on this PGA National where he’s found so much success in the past.

Yearly Earnings - $610,660
Yearly Cuts Made - 6/7

Joe Idone

Spencer Aguiar - Russell Henley

Alternate -Byeong Hun An

To be honest, I was expecting to go a different route when I started the week. Henley has been a superb course fit over the years, posting eight made cuts in nine attempts, including a victory in 2014. That said, there were other spots in my model where I projected myself to land.

When we look at Henley's current statistical trajectory, you will see 17 positive tee-to-green performances out of 18 tournaments leading the way. The massive deterrent has been the putter, an area that has seen him lose strokes in six of seven starts. However, the caveat to that situation is the one time he gained strokes came at the Sony Open (an additional Bermuda putting course).

Henley's third-place grade for weighted Bermuda scoring should blend exceptionally well with his 67-spot improvement with the flat stick when running the data for PGA National. I keep finding myself more into Henley's win equity every time I update my model.

Yearly Earnings - $1,122,199
Yearly Cuts Made - 7/7

Matt Miller - Keith Mitchell

This week I’m taking Killa Keith Mitchell. He picked up his first win at PGA National and this week it will be the home of his second as well. He enters this week with some momentum. Mitchell has back-to-back top 20 finishes in Mexico and Phoenix.
His game is perfectly suited for PGA National and he has a strong history of Florida golf. His southeast ties should have him comfortable on the Bermuda greens

Yearly Earnings - $1,679,638
Yearly Cuts Made - 6/7

Byron Lindeque - Chris Kirk

If it weren’t for a double on hole #9, Chan Kim would have potentially finished solo third, but we will take an 8th-place finish from for the Chan Gang! This week poses an interesting scenario, as Rory is easily the best golfer in the field, but the nature of this golf course is such than even the most likely favorite can land up missing the cut because of two or three bad shots.

Hence, we are going to keep Rory in our pocket for an event where his range of outcomes is not as wide as Talor Gooch’s mouth. Chris Kirk got off to an incredibly hot start to the year and has since cooled off. I would imagine a lot of people played him at the Sony and his recent form and odds of 45-1 would suggest he is a less popular pick this week, despite having won here last year. If he can recapture some of the spark he had in Hawaii at a venue he has been ultra comfortable at in the past, he is a low exposure, high reward option in OAD contests this week!

Yearly Earnings - $1,354,550
Yearly Cuts Made - 6/7

Mia The Model - Cameron Young

Alternate - Rory McIlroy

Byron T20
