RotoBaller PGA: One And Done Staff Picks - 3M Open

The PGA RotoBaller staff digs into their One and Done selections for the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Here are some under the radar plays and picks for this week's event.

Here at RotoBaller, we are always searching for ways to give our readers the best fantasy sports content possible. With that goal in mind, we are very proud to announce the addition of a weekly PGA “One and Done” column. In this feature, our golf staff of Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar and Gianni Magliocco will provide their weekly golf picks every Wednesday. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!

2019 3M Open

It was a bit of a mixed bag for the team at last week's inaugural Rocket Mortgage Classic. Joe and I both grabbed a top-20 finish thanks to a strong final round from Billy Horschel, while for Spencer, he was unfortunate to fall victim to a shocking performance from Dustin Johnson. In an event which Johnson began as the overwhelming favorite, the 35-year old proceeded to miss the cut to leave Spencer empty-handed for the week.

It's on to the inaugural 3M Open where plenty of unknowns should make for an exciting week.

For an in-depth breakdown of the top DraftKings and Fanduel plays, check out Joe Nicely's weekly Horse For The Course that highlights the best fits for the week's course.

And you can also find out who the smart money is on by checking out Spencer Aguiar's PGA DFS: Vegas Report every week.

TPC Twin Cities

7,481 Yards - Par 71 - Greens Bentgrass

A lengthy golf course which you may or may not have seen before when it hosted Champions Tour events, TPC Twin Cities is known for its plethora of holes where water is in play. Water hazards play a factor on 14 of TPC Twin Cities 18 holes, which will make concentration and accuracy off the tee critical, while as is often the case, strokes gained approaching the green will be one of the essential areas to focus on when doing your research for this week.

One and Done Selections

Joe Nicely - Bryson DeChambeau

Alternate -  Joaquin Niemann

A final-round surge from Billy Horschel bailed me out at last week's Rocket Mortgage Classic. Billy Ho finished tied for 17th with a paycheck of a little over 100k. I'll take it in what was a wild tournament at Detroit Golf Club.

We head to Minnesota this week for the 3M Open. It's a brand new event on the PGA Tour schedule, but we do have a bit of familiarity with the host course. TPC Twin Cities, as it's been the home to a Champions Tour event for several years. We can expect low scores, as the senior guys routinely light this place up.

I was truly handcuffed last week by the players I had available to me, but thankfully I've got a little more flexibility in this week's 3M Open. After glancing at some young guns like Joaquin Niemann and Viktor Hovland, I narrowed it down to a couple of the more elite players I have left at my disposal in this contest - Jason Day and Bryson DeChambeau.

The hiring of Stevie Williams seems to have re-energized Day and I fully expect him to play well this week, but I prefer the Aussie on tough courses where his ability to grind out pars really makes a difference. DeChambeau, on the other hand, should be very comfortable this week in what I expect to be a birdie-fest and his wins in tournaments like the John Deere Classic and Shriners Hospitals Openprove as much. I've come to accept that Bryson isn't ever going to be the most consistent player on the PGA Tour but will instead run hot and cold. After an especially frigid stretch this year, his last three starts indicate that his game is beginning to thaw out, so I'll roll with the 'Mad Scientist' at the 3M this week.  - Joe Nicely

Yearly Earnings - $8,544,710

Yearly Cuts Made - 21/24

Spencer Aguiar - Sungjae Im

Alternate - Rory Sabbatini

Without Brooks Koepka, Hideki Matsuyama or Jason Day left and knowing that Bryson DeChambeau is going to be a popular selection in all contests, I have decided to go slightly outside the box and choose Sungjae Im.

My selections are starting to become overly aggressive and will yield volatile results, but I need to swing for the fence every week and hope to get lucky. Im has been trending in the right direction as of late, posting three straight top-21 results, and I believe his most significant advantage this week is that all players will be playing the course for the first time. Im has done his damage this season at venues he has never seen, and everyone else will finally be on an equal playing field as he is at the 3M Open. - Spencer Aguiar

Yearly Earnings - $5,351,364

Yearly Cuts Made - 22/24

Gianni Magliocco - Bryson DeChambeau

Alternate - Patrick Reed

This is a straightforward week for myself, with Bryson DeChambeau beginning to show form and being the best player available for me to use. DeChambeau has recorded three successive top-35 finishes for the first time since the beginning of the year, and over his last eight rounds, the 25-year-old sits 10th in this week's field for strokes gained approaching the green.

DeChambeau has also been solid on the greens as of late, sitting third in this week's field for strokes gained putting over his last three events. In what is a mediocre field at best, DeChambeau should be able to get himself in the mix, and it's a no brainer decision for me to use him at this stop. - Gianni Magliocco

Yearly Earnings - $8,775,253

Yearly Cuts Made - 20/24
