Yangervis Solarte Projects As Utility Man In Toronto
7 years agoSince debuting in 2014, Toronto Blue Jays utility man Yangervis Solarte has been known for his versatility and solid, but not great, contributions across multiple fantasy categories. There’s no reason for that expectation to change in 2018. Set to begin the season without a starting role in his first year as a Blue Jay, Solarte figures to see time across second base, third base, and shortstop. Whether it’s enough time to be fantasy relevant will most likely depend on the health of entrenched starters such as third baseman Josh Donaldson, shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, and second baseman Devon Travis. Of course, there’s also early chatter the recently-acquired Solarte could eventually become the Jays’ primary second baseman in place of Travis – but for now that’s just a rumor and shouldn’t be considered in Solarte’s evaluation. As of now, Solarte is projected for roughly 210 plate appearances for the year, which clearly isn’t enough to merit selecting with a draft pick.
