Willy Adames 2024 Player Outlook: Bounce-Back All But Inevitable
11 months agoMilwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames couldn't put it together consistently at the plate in 2023. He brought his usual pop to the table with 24 home runs and another 29 doubles across 149 games but he also hit just .217, 30 points below his .247 career average. Despite walking more and striking out less, Adames finished with a career-worst 94 wRC+. However, he also suffered from a career-low .259 BABIP, a hefty 51 points below his .310 career mark. Now, some of that was warranted considering he ranked in the 23rd percentile in hard-hit rare and 16th in average exit velocity. However, he also ranked in the 82nd percentile in barrel rate and ranked in the 70th percentile or better in hard-hit rate from 2021-2022. He currently boasts a 185.3 ADP, a figure more or less in line with RotoBaller's 191 ranking. However, for those willing to pass on the top tier of shortstops early on draft day, Adames could provide a big ROI in the later rounds with 30-homer upside and superior batted-ball luck on the horizon.
