William Byron Scores His Second Martinsville Win
8 months agoIn Sunday's Cook Out 400 at Martinsville, William Byron ended the race as the winner and part of a 1-2-3 finish for Hendrick Motorsports. Byron did not get the victory without progressively working his way to the front throughout the entire race as he first started 18th. Due to having a fast car, Byron would work his way to the Top 10 by the end of the first stage and continue to slowly traverse to the front as his team would adjust the car. Eventually, in the final stage, Byron would make his way to the Top 5 until pitting early on lap 297 for fresh tires under green. This would be the turning point for the No. 24 Chevrolet as after other cars made their pit stops, Byron would gain the lead and dominate for the rest of the race. Despite a late race caution and an overtime finish, Byron would hold strong for his second Martinsville win in the Cup Series, as well as a series-leading third win in 2024. As the Cup Series next heads to Texas, Byron will be one of the favorites to nab another win as the most recent winner at the site.
