William Smith 2024 Fantasy Baseball Outlook: The Favorite To Close In Kansas City?
10 months agoBased on what we see from his NFBC ADP of 352, William Smith is the leading candidate to close for the Kansas City Royals. Smith earned 22 saves for the World-Champion Texas Rangers last year but none in September, when he ceded the role to Jose Leclerc. Smith signed a one-year deal with Kansas City and, based on having experience in the top bullpen job, should be the favorite to start the season as the closer. Buyer beware: Smith had one of the highest max exit velocities in MLB last season at 116.1, and the K% was down to a career-low 24.3%. Smith might have enough juice to start the year as it gets closer, but expect this to become a timeshare at some point. ATC projects 14 saves, 10 holds, and a 4.46 ERA. If you can absorb the ratio shock, Smith could get you some saves.
