Whit Merrifield Walks Off Yankees
6 years agoKansas City Royals utility man Whit Merrifield came through in the clutch on Sunday as he sent a bouncer down to third that ate up the defender and allowed Billy Hamilton to score the winning run against the Yankees. Merrifield's bouncer was classified as a hit because it was an extremely difficult play due to some weird hops. Merrifield has continued to rock along as one of the team's most dependable players, contributing a run or RBI in nine of the last 11 games, but he's been a bit more susceptible on the basepaths this season. He's still got eight stolen bases, but he's also been caught five times. Since KC is a team that leans so heavily on its speed, it's unlikely he'll be prevented from running, but there's an outside chance that he becomes a little pickier this year.
