Whit Merrifield Steals 100th Career Base
5 years agoKansas City Royals second baseman/outfielder Whit Merrifield hit a milestone on Saturday when he swiped his 100th career bag. Merrifield is the sixth-fastest Royal to reach the mark, doing so in just 474 games. Merrifield is riding an eight-game hitting streak into the final game before the All-Star break, and the steal bumped him up to 13 for the year. Unfortunately, Merrifield's also been caught at a much higher rate than normal this season, already racking up seven caught stealings versus a 45/10 ratio last year. The good news is only two of those have come within the last six weeks, so hopefully he was just off to a slow start. Merrifield will be representing KC in the All-Star Game in Cleveland this year, so maybe he can snag a bonus base there.
