Van Jefferson 2020 Outlook: Odd Man Out in Rams' Offense
5 years agoRookie Rams' wide receiver Van Jefferson is a silky-smooth route runner in a big body. He fits the exact mold the team looks for at the position and should take over for one of Cooper Kupp or Robert Woods depending on which one parts soonest While Jefferson may be an older prospect who had to transfer schools and never "broke out", he has his share of excuses at first playing in a DEEP Ole Miss receiving corps with sophomore studs DK Metcalf and A.J. Brown along with heading to a low-volume passing attack in Florida. The surface stats are not pretty but Jefferson's tape surely is. Also, he timed as the fastest receiver at the Senior Bowl in terms of miles-per-hour on the field. There is certainly something to like from him, which is why the Rams selected him in the second round. Unfortunately, if the offense's trend continues from last year, they will continue to run a heavy 12-personnel that leaves Jefferson as the odd man out unless one of Kupp or Woods gets hurt. Even then, veteran Josh Reynolds is still around to eat up snaps. Jefferson is not worth drafting outside of the deepest redraft leagues.
