Tyler Glasnow Looking To Fulfill Potential
7 years agoRanked one of the best pitching prospects in baseball since 2014, Tyler Glasnow got his first extended look in the big leagues last season. It did not go well. The 6-foot-8 right-hander made 15 appearances (13 starts), posting a dismal 2-7 record with a 7.69 ERA (5.64 xFIP) in 62 innings. His struggles were largely tied to a lack of control, as his walk rate was a horrendous 14.4%. Glasnow pitched better against Triple-A competition after being demoted in June (9-2, 1.93 ERA, 2.17 xFIP, 38.5 K%, 8.8 BB%), but struggled again upon his return to the majors in September, ultimately finishing the year in the bullpen. Despite his rookie struggles, Glasnow is in contention for the fifth spot in the Pirates' rotation in 2018 along with Joe Musgrove and Steven Brault. Unless his control is significantly better, however, it's likely that he'll head back to Triple-A to start the season. From a fantasy perspective, Glasnow's potential is still tantalizing and dynasty owners should hold onto him, but he's not a pitcher you can trust in redraft leagues until he eliminates his command issues.
