Tom Murphy Called Up From Triple-A
7 years agoColorado Rockies catcher Tom Murphy has been recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday. In a corresponding move, outfielder Mike Tauchman has been optioned back to Triple-A. Murphy has yet to play with the Rockies this season, but he only got one hit in 24 at-bats last year. However, he's been quite a great asset in Triple-A this season, batting .289 with 34 runs, 16 home runs and 45 RBI with a 1.001 OPS in 187 at-bats. Considering he only bat for a .737 OPS in Triple-A last year compared to his 1.008 OPS in Triple-A in 2016, it looks like he's dealt with the issues that plagued him last season. While the Rockies are running Chris Iannetta out as the everyday catcher and also still have Tony Wolters on the roster, Murphy holds the most hitting potential out of all the catchers on the team. He should be kept on all watch lists for the time being.
