Thomas Vanek Returning to Detroit on One-Year Deal
6 years agoThe Detroit Red Wings have reportedly struck a deal with free agent forward Thomas Vanek on a one-year deal. Vanek returns to Detroit where he scored 38 points in 48 games in 2016 before being traded to the Florida Panthers at the trade deadline. While his usage has decreased, last eclipsing an average time on ice of 16 minutes in 2014, Vanek has still been a staple on the top power-play unit of whatever team he has played for. Consistently scoring around 20 goals and 50 points over the last five years, Vanek capped that time off with 24 goals and 56 points last season. This signing keeps Vanek's fantasy value consistent with what it was last year, as someone worth keeping an eye on, especially if he gets moved again at the trade deadline.
