Tee Higgins, 2023 Outlook: Maintaining A Critical Role In Cincinnati’s High-Powered Passing Attack
2 years agoTee Higgins enters the final year of his rookie contract having consistently displayed the ability to function as an effective weapon for the Bengals. He has accumulated 108+ targets (7.1 per game) during each of his first three seasons while averaging 74 receptions (4.9 per game) and ascending to 14th overall in receiving yards since 2021 (2,120/70.7 per game). His per-game averages in targets (6.8), receptions (4.6), receiving yards (64.3), and air yards (84.6) during 2022, failed to match his averages during 2021 (7.9 targets/5.3 receptions/77.9 yards/94.8 air yards per game). However, he still finished 19th in receiving yards (1,029/64.3 per game), 14th in yards before catch (743), and 15th in receptions of 20+ yards (16), despite contending with multiple injuries (ankle/concussion/hamstring). Higgins also averaged 15.5 points per game from Weeks 8-12, while Ja'Marr Chase was sidelined with a hip issue. Chase remains entrenched within the elite tier at his position, but his presence as Cincinnati's WR1 does not prevent Higgins from operating as a highly-productive WR2 for both the Bengals and fantasy managers. Higgins' contract status is unsettled beyond 2023, as the Bengals attempt to navigate the arduous task of extending deals for Higgins, Chase, and Joe Burrow. However, Higgins should perform effectively regardless of his environment, which leaves his Round 3 ADP properly placed in best ball leagues (32/WR13). He is also cemented as a Round 2 selection in dynasty startup leagues.
