Stephen Vogt Is Past His Prime
7 years agoStephen Vogt is 33 years old and coming off his second consecutive substandard season. Vogt had a bad 2016 and most were hoping for a bounce-back performance in 2017. However, he hit for a .233 average, which is a career low; it also coincides with his career lowest batting average on balls in play of .249. Similar to 2016, Vogt swung at pitches outside the zone at a terribly high rate of 34.1%, which was his highest since 2003. Vogt did increase his hard hit percentage (32.7%); unfortunately, his soft-hit percentage has increased annually for the last four years to 25.2%. Vogt did miss time during the season due to injury. His actual performance did not give confidence of future potential. Vogt is in a good situation if he can recover to his 2015 performance levels. The Brewers have a lineup with great offensive potential. However, Vogt’s decline is worrisome and he is no longer a viable option at catcher. Vogt should only be drafted late in two-catcher leagues.
