Scott Schebler Expected To Open Season As Starting Corner Outfielder
7 years agoCincinnati Reds outfielder Scott Schebler turned in a solid 2017 season for his team, slashing .233/.307/.484 with 30 homers, 63 runs, 67 RBI, and five steals in 141 games played. The 27-year-old lefty is expected to open 2018 as one of the Reds' starting outfielders, along with Adam Duvall and Billy Hamilton. That being said, the team also wants to get youngster Jesse Winker big league at-bats, so there will be plenty of rotating among the Cincinnati outfielders. Schebler provided plenty of power in 2017, fueled by a 38.2% fly ball rate and a 22.4% HR/FB mark. The fact that Schebler plays in homer-friendly Great American Ballpark certainly helped him in the power department but he does have plenty of power in his bat. Despite the solid power numbers, Schebler finished with just a .248 BABIP in 207. While his fly ball tendencies will naturally result in a lower BABIP, there is some room for Schebler's batting average to improve if he gets a little more luck in that department. Schebler is a cheap source of power worth adding as a reserve outfielder in most fantasy leagues.
