Sandy Alcantara Placed On 60-Day Injured List
10 months agoMiami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara (elbow) was put on the 60-day injured list Saturday. The move was made to clear a 40-man roster spot for the newly-signed Tim Anderson. Alcantara will miss the 2024 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in October. The recovery time for Tommy John is roughly 14 months, so Alcantara should be ready by the time spring training rolls around next season. The 28-year-old was one of the better pitchers in the game in 2021 and 2022 but took a step back last season, finishing with a 4.03 FIP and 1.21 WHIP. He also struck out batters at his lowest clip since 2019, his first full season in the majors. Coming off a down 2023 and surgery, he might fly under the radar heading into drafts next year and makes for a nice bounce-back candidate.
