Sandy Alcantara 2021 Fantasy Outlook: Finally Putting It All Together
4 years agoThe results do not seem to match the ability for Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara so far in his young career. He has a moderate career strikeout rate of 19.2% despite having big-time velocity and a deep pitching arsenal. He has shown consistent improvement in his career that culminated in a really strong 3.00 ERA and 1.19 WHIP with a 22.7% strikeout rate over 42 innings in 2020. His pitch mix begins with a hard sinker that makes his 49% ground-ball rate seem completely repeatable, and he has a four-seamer and two breaking balls to go with it. That mixture makes us believe there is room for the strikeouts to improve and for Alcantara to have some really great seasons in the future. He may just be a few minor adjustments away from a huge breakout, and he remains cheap in drafts. The time to buy is now.
