The Vancouver Canucks acquired forward Sam Lafferty from the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday for a 2024 fifth-round draft pick. Lafferty moved on from Toronto after playing in just 19 games for the team over the final stretch of 2022-23. He started last season with the Chicago Blackhawks and enjoyed a career year with 12 goals and 27 points in 70 games. Lafferty has also played two and a half seasons in Pittsburgh and has tallied 59 points (23 goals, 36 assists) in 210 career games. Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin has praised Lafferty's speed and penalty-killing ability, which will come in handy for a team that had the NHL's worst penalty kill last season.--Taavi Pailk
