Sam Darnold Likely Done For The Season
3 years agoCarolina Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold (neck) is likely done for the remainder of the year. The team placed the former first-round pick on Injured Reserve this past week and is "operating as if the quarterback will not play again this season," writes Adam Schefter of ESPN.com. Traded from the Jets to the Panthers this past offseason, Darnold went 182-for-306 with 1,986 passing yards, seven touchdowns, and 11 interceptions through eight games. He also added five scores on the ground. The 24-year-old's contract expires after 2022, a year in which he is guaranteed to earn $18,585,000. Carolina signed Cam Newton this past week and could be grooming him to compete for the starting job even when Darnold is healthy again.
